Aecio Neves speech at the National Convention of the PSDB, Sao Paulo, June 14, 2014

My friends, my friends, from every corner of this wonderful Brazil.

I think you can imagine the emotion I feel at this moment.

The most important moment of my entire political walk. And things do not happen by chance.

I beg of you to greet in a special way my mother who is present here, companion of every moment and every moment of this journey.

My dear daughter, Gabriela loved also here today, permanent inspiration in every act of my daily life.

A kiss from a distance, my wife and my children, newborns, recovering well, thank God, and there will be growing in a more just, more supportive and more generous.

It is indescribable.

Indescribable emotion I feel at this moment and go back in time a bit and listen to so many and so expressive political leaders of Brazil here today to succeed in this platform, not just paying me tribute, but radiating confidence in the construction of a new era in Brazil .

My mind, my memory went back in time and remembered two men who were absolutely critical in my walk.

The first, the one who got me as a boy by the hand and taught that honesty and responsibility must be permanent companions of good men. My longing for my father Aécio Cunha.

Time passed and in my teens a safe, strong, idealistic and courageous hand taught me that there is, in the life of a society, a more dignified activity and more honorable than politics. But he referred to the policy taken seriously, responsibly and boldly.

Thank you, my grandfather Tancredo, by his teaching, by their example and by their courage that allowed the Brazilians in reecontrarmos to democracy and freedom.

Like at that moment, before heading to you, and Brazil who hears us today, a few words and let myself read here some commitments to the beginning of this journey, back 30 years ago.

By the time Brazil has rallied behind a big dream, the dream of regaining freedom.

The frustration and pain at the death of Tancredo president took the nation's account, and obviously in a very profound way, the one who accompanied him every day and every hour.

I beg to go back to 30 years ago and ask for help to a great Brazilian, and I pray that your voice, the voice of the great friend and poet Gullar allows us this time travel.

(Read the poem "Word spends" of Gullar made audio)

Goodbye to Tancredo

Companion Tancredo Neves, I will not call you for Excellence logo now, when more than our president, you are our brother and wounded who will. It was you who led from one end to the other of the country, above our heads, a torch flame green as hope.

Hope is a word spend, but it was not the word, it was the same hope, that you carried, and she still Luzia in your hands today, at the last moment, in a hospital room in Sao Paulo.

And when his hands went out, that flame shone in the homeland of heaven right now. Homeland is a word spend, but homeland is the earth is mother, although many of us, millions of us still roam the cities, the countryside, without the guarantee of equality that we shall conquer the strong arm.

Homeland is a word spent, but in her breast will rest Tancredo friend, the soft ground of São João del Rey, loved by the people, in the light of the deep sky. People also spend a word, but the people, the people awakened even when promised him a New Republic, lit the sun of a new world. And it will come, and you build it to us, raising our arms, singing in our mouth, falling and rising and this people that, when he died, you transformants.

Friends,

The words we have just heard recover the deep sense of hope we share for so long - and that should inspire us in our journey we started.

They tell us, deep in the soul of our duties to Brazil and the assets we have with each of the Brazilians.

They magnify the sense of our purpose.

They have the power to remember where we came from, who we are and why we are here.

If it was always clear the PSDB's commitment to democracy and freedom, was our courage left us the modern and promising country we are today.

It was with her that put an end to hiperinflancionário cycle that imprisoned our growth and stole our future.

And especially hit the poorest, those most in need and least had.

With the determination of President Itamar and unchallenged leadership of President Fernando Henrique, we transform the Brazilian reality of structural and definitive form, with the Real Plan.

So when hardly anyone believed it would be possible.

The Real Plan not only secured the salary purchasing power. The Real Plan regained to Brazil the most symbolic value that a nation can have: confidence in herself.

It was our transformative vocation that built the Brazil of our time.

Our strategic vision has created the Fiscal Responsibility Law, so that the citizens of the currency more well maintained and applied.

Our commitment to the future secured places for all children in school.

Our respect for the health of Brazilians - and let me here a tribute to the minister and friend Jose Serra - created generics, ensuring affordable medicines to the population. And the best AIDS prevention program in the world.

Our firm commitment to the development and well-being of each of the Brazilian modernized the state structure.

Expanded access to services, such as telecommunications, which opened the doors of the future for the country and created new job opportunities for millions of Brazilians.

I want to secure every one of you:

No other government in our recent history, left a legacy of transformation and created as a solid foundation so that the country could move forward, as the government PSDB, always supported by our allies, and Homage explicitly and strongly the Democrats so many companions here today attend.

Wherever you look, there are milestones of modernity implanted by us, when we had the honorable responsibility to govern Brazil.

The creation of regulatory agencies to modernize ports; simplification of the tax system, with simple; support for the man of the field, with the Pronaf.

In government, the PSDB worried indeed in ruling people.

Our responsibility was to every American and Brazilian who needed the support of government actions.

In education, with Fundef.

In health, with the expansion of the Family Health, Women's Health and Amendment 29, which secured more resources for the public system.

In the fight against poverty, and I think important rememorarmos, the Poverty Alleviation Fund, the regulation of the Organic Law of Social Assistance and Rural Retirement, the National Policy for the Elderly, the Protection Program and Promotion of Persons with Disabilities.

It was we, the PSDB and its allies, with the support of the Brazilian people, who created the first and final national cash transfer programs. And the biggest of them, the Benefit of Continuous Cash.

Structure the social safety net, we started what would become later in the Bolsa Família. We created the Child Labor Eradication Program, the slave and degrading work.

And those are just some examples of the work we did.

And no our opponents wanting, history does not rewrite. She is there to be revisited and recognized.

Our consistent with our principles and values kept us in the opposition leadership in the last 12 years.

But we must recognize that our opponents also maintained its consistency.

Who was against Real Plan is who allows the return of inflation.

Who opposed the Fiscal Responsibility Law is who signs the damn creative accounting.

Who refused to support the national unity advocated by Tancredo and Itamar, in two very important moments of national life, they are the same as today are trying to divide the Brazil perversely between us and them.

In recent years, with amazing speed, the legacy blessed the PSDB management left the country is slipping away, running out.

Inflation is a reality that assails the table of the poor.

Trust, internal and external, which had been hard-won, was lost in the wake of countless demonstrations of contempt for transparency and undeniable authoritarian and interventionist bent.

Brazilians, that's the truth, realize they have been betrayed and so the indignation environment and dismay came over every corner of Brazil.

They believed in the propaganda of those who said defending ethics. And they elected a government that was protagonist of the biggest corruption scandals in our history.

They believed in the propaganda of those who say defend public property. And they elected a government that in a few years has annihilating valuable asset built by generations of Brazilians.

Petrobras, built during 60 years of effort by the Brazilians, only the current president government loses half its value, fails to attend the economic pages, to attend almost daily police pages.

Eletrobras will the same way.

Pension funds, assets of the servers of state and public banks companies were also undermined by the greed of a political group that gave up long ago, to have a national plan to settle, solely and exclusively, to conduct a project power.

These are just a few among many examples with which we are confronted in our everyday life.

Instead of a big jump again and promised, turned back.

We have lost the way.

Old problems, such as inflation, for example, we imagined overcome, are back, delaying the national agenda.

All this. All this, every act is the result of a government that governs for himself.

A government that promises more than it delivers; talking more than it does; who lost a long time listening skills and is unable to support people in dreams that mobilize.

A government fixed in the past that dares not face the present, either face the future.

A government that settled with past achievements inherited.

Who lost the ability to move and live, unfortunately, advertising what did not.

We know:

Government that does not listen, misses.

Government improvising, always fails.

Friends,

Brazil no longer accept the co-opted and rigged state.

The country on charges, without mincing words, the end of the scandals in series and the endemic corruption that took over the country.

The country is tired of improvisation, of leniency and mismanagement, which left us over the years. Throughout the national territory, a veritable graveyard of unfinished works, multiplied with budgets.

Brazilian citizens require fair return on public services than they pay in taxes, that that is one of the largest and most crippling tax burdens around the world.

The mistakes are everywhere.

The population calls for measures on safety.

I do not understand why the national state simply outsource responsibilities to states and municipalities on the verge of insolvency.

Among young people, we have the highest rate of world of crime victims. Violence is condemning a whole generation of Brazilians to premature death.

Similarly, our people no longer supports be met by a public health state of chronic insecurity.

While the government spends millions on advertising, the reality is that only the last four years 13,000 hospital beds were closed in the country.

And the past decade has been dropping the participation of federal government spending on health.

They were 56%, President Fernando Henrique, of federal government resources when Your Excellency and his companion José Serra left the government. Eleven years have passed, today only 45% of all public health resources come from the Union.

In education, illiteracy, amazingly, stopped falling.

Half of Brazilians over 25 years did not finish elementary school.

Eight out of 10 children aged up to three years do not attend kindergartens.

Half of Brazilians do not have sewage collected from their homes.

11 million Brazilians living in substandard housing.

Five out of 10 Brazilians earn less than 2 minimum salaries.

Is this the country we have the challenge and responsibility to change - and improve - out of respect for our people, who now demand government action permanently put off by the government.

We are now hostages of the worst economic equation between emerging countries - tiny growth, recrudescida inflation.

And to frame the picture, the increasing loss of credibility of the country.

The lack of spending, waste, neglect of public money engulf our investment capacity and prevent us to perform the claimed priorities by Brazilians.

Not been resources to modernize the country's ports, highways and subways Brazilians, but there is plenty of money to do work in countries ideologically aligned with the current government.

This is shameful.

And I ask you, why these funds to those countries have the seal of secret funding given by the BNDES? What do they both fear to not allow society to share information, under what conditions they were given?

But assure to you. Within a short time I will show to Brazil under what conditions these financings have taken and what possible benefits brought to the country.

We can no longer accept that repeated and perverse attempt to divide Brazil in half.

We have to fight with all our energy to break down the walls that divide Brazilians in various conditions.

There are walls we must tear down permanently, not just those that the federal government seeks to build everyday.

We have, and this is serious, to tear down the wall that increasingly separates the Brazilian citizens of politicians and their rulers.

We will do this by eliminating privileges and behavior of the political class that no longer fit in a pluralistic society, democratic and modern.

We build dignified political, made in daylight and transparency that does not occur today.

It's past time to all be treated as equals, with equal rights and duties.

We need to tear down walls and build bridges.

Throughout my life I've always tried to be a bridge builder, blaster never one of them.

We need to raise bridges that allow the reunion of citizens with their representatives, but also bridges that can unite government and society in a new direction.

Bridges that can bring us closer to each other.

And it is urgent a huge effort from each of us, all of us, to meet again in to the country, and the nation we have always been.

We can not let the anger to paralyze us, the anger consume us, that individualism keep us from each other.

We need to rescue itself from the Brazilian joy, joy that comes from confidence and the certainty that you can always improve.

Joy to transform what needs to be transformed.

The Brazil, friends, urgently needs to rediscover himself.

Today, I am here representing, I'm sure, the feeling of Brazilians over and over parts of the country.

And more and more comes in me a feeling, perhaps paradoxical in the first instance, but complementary in essence, serenity and courage.

We are not here to build the project of a political party or a party alliance, no matter how wide it is.

We are here to say enough is enough definitive to those who have appropriated the nation state and in Brazil begin a new and generous cycle where there is quality education, decent health and safety in the door of Brazilian families.

Let's rescue with our history, with our examples and with that legion of fighters a new era in Brazil.

With each passing day, for every state and region in which I walk, I realize that there is just a breeze, but a wind of change, a tsunami that will sweep the federal government those that there have not proven worthy and able to meet the demands of the population.

I never thought I could be here today. On that day, supported and flanked by some of the most significant national political leaders.

Supported by anonymous companions who have left their homes, their cities, and traveled for kilometers to be here today.

My responsibility, it grew, and today is the greatest of all, because we are very close even to make this reunion to which I referred.

If it was up to Juscelino Kubitschek, dear Maria Estela, 60 years ago, allowing the reunion of Brazil with development and modernity, fell to Tancredo, 30 years later, allow Brazil, dear Gabriela, was reunited with democracy and the Liberty.

Another 30 years have passed. We will lead Brazil to the reunion with decency, dignity and work. With efficiency in public life.

And we do this with the courage to all of you.

I accepted today the convening of my party and allied parties.

I am a candidate for president.

To change Brazil. To transform the lives of Brazilians.

Brazil deserves more!

Until the victory of work and seriousness!

For a new Brazil!

Change Brazil!
